Phunzira is a UK-based charity that was founded in 2009 in order to
help impoverished children and adults in the north of Malawi to
receive better education and health care. Our main objective is to
provide resources and materials to the people of Ruarwe and its
surrounding villages, and to create an approachable and healthy
environment that focuses on long-term, sustainable community
development. We believe in the notion of collective responsibility and
awareness, and seek to initiate grassroots projects that encourage
social and economic growth whilst always maintaining a focus on
community and individual empowerment.
Ruarwe is a remote village along the lake in an area of incredible
natural beauty and it is both a challenging and rewarding place to
work. There is no charge for volunteering with Phunzira and we offer
free accommodation at the beautiful Zulunkhuni River Lodge where there
are plenty of exotic birds and fish to keep you entertained. There are
numerous opportunities for people of all ages and from all walks of
life. We are looking for help with education, health, construction
work, carpentry, gardening and recreational activities. The overall
focus of our project is to create a healthy and happy environment for
everyone to learn and develop skills for sustainable living. We are
therefore interested in passionate and creative individuals, so please
don't hesitate to contact us even if you feel you don't have a
specific skill set.
